Heavy duty Kapok coat used by the Long Range Desert Group, designed for use in the 1940 Norwegian campaign they were reissued to the LRDG in North Africa for the extremely cold desert nights. Heavy duty canvas outer shell that was windproof and waterproof. Quilted Kapok lining for extra insulation. Wooden closure toggles. Large wool serge collar with large hip pockets .Inside label has size and maker details and date 1942 with War Department stamp.
Originally designed for the Norway campaign the jackets proved too bulky for standard infantry use. Adopted for Desert use by the LRDG and by static gun crews its excellent warmth was essential for night patrols and sentries.Heavy duty over 5kg it was ideal for use in vehicles.
Rare and sought after item for LRDG collectors. Some staining to outside of coat and expected wear. Was found stored in an attic since the end of WW2 along with the Despatch rider's coat we have also listed.
