Excellent collection of items to 200599 later 53663 Private James Crawford Stirrat , Ayrshire Yeomanry attached to Royal Scots Fusiliers. Killed in action 21st October 1918 aged 19. He died during the final offensive of the war known as the 'Hundred Days Offensive' just three weeks before Armistice was signed. Buried at the Harlebeke New British Cemetary in West- Vlaanderen, Belgium.
Included is his Memorial plaque. Very rare and poignant letters sent to his mother from his commanding officer commenting on his character and details regarding his death in action. Mourning cards with his details including one with his image attached in a photograph. Letters to Private Stirrat from his mother a few months before his death. A Signaller Certificate signed by his Brigade Signalling Officer that was recovered from his body and has some specks of blood. Twelve photographs including one of him with his mother, three of him and his unit at Dunbar 1918 presumably before departing for France. Four of him with fellow soldiers and several portraits of other soldiers presumably in his unit. One small photograph of a young boy possibly his younger brother. Unique collection of ephemera from the Great War.
