(Code: 2749) | |   Kriegsmarine M42 pattern single decal coastal artillery helmet. Field grey painted helmet with gold Kriegsmarine decal to left side. Leather part of liner is missing. Alloy inner band is maker stamped with 1940 dated chinstrap. Split pins remain untouched and straight. Maker stamp is difficult to identify but appears to be ET66 or EF66 on inner side of helmet ,the lot number is also present to inner rear but again hard to make out. The helmet has been untouched since WW2 and was brought back by a Royal Marine Commando who was a Lewis gunner on one of the three landing crafts that provided cover for the other landing craft on D-Day.
Also included are his Certificate of service in the Royal Marines, Royal Marines sweetheart brooch in box signed to his mother, Combined Operations patch,1st class machine gunner badge, and his marksman qualification badge. Photocopied paperwork included.

Interior of tunic lined in grey rayon. Label to collar has maker details 'H. Oldevend, Hamburg'. Inside breast pocket has an interior label with maker name and the owners name in black ink with date of 4.6.41. Dagger hanging strap to inside. Sewn to second button hole is ribbon for the War Merit Cross 2nd Class. Complete with original stitched award loops for two awards and a ribbon bar. The top tunic button has detached from tunic but is present. |

This box would have been made by a young Hitler Youth member at a early Labour front Hitler Youth meeting where Youth members would learn skills in craftmanship that would help in gaining placements in technical jobs and other DAF related industry. Assessments would be given and graded such as making this box.Boxes like this were also made as commemorative items and presentation gifts. Inside box has etched in German the words 'Deutsche Handwerks Arbeit' meaning 'German Craftmanship' and the Handicraft guilds logo guaranteeing work quality.
The brass hinge closes and opens perfectly. Nice early piece of Hitler Youth history.
